Tentacruel is an aggressive pelagic predator. Most specimens reach roughly five feet in size, drifting silently through open water with their dome-shaped heads and trailing appendages held in careful suspension. Beneath the mantle lie up to eighty concealed tentacles, normally hidden within the body and deployed only when prey is within range - unfurling in a sudden, overwhelming strike.

Embedded across the crown of the head are crimson poison bulbs, reservoirs of a lethal toxin that is injected through the tentacles during a kill. Paired pinchers beneath the dome are used to clamp and restrain struggling prey, holding it in place as paralysis sets in. While most individuals pose a threat only at close range, rare megaspecimens grow large enough to disable vessels or drag entire ships beneath the surface, leaving nothing behind but still water.
